Self-love affirmations are a powerful tool to help you fill your own cup.

It starts with these little daily acts of love you give yourself.

Most of us begin our lives thinking that external sources can love, understand, forgive, appreciate, and see us for who we truly are. (Don’t worry; it happens to the majority of us!)

When we turn our gaze inward, we realize the true source of power lies within us. From this place, we can begin to show up in our lives as complete, whole, and confident human beings.

I’m excited for you! By being here, reading, researching self-love affirmations, and working on yourself, you’re at the precipice of change. So, let’s get started, shall we?

What is Self-Love?

Self-love is the ability to accept, appreciate, and view yourself positively. It is the foundation of your being and the magic ingredient to the quality of your life. The energy of love houses qualities such as kindness, joy, acceptance, support, forgiveness, compassion, nurture, intuition, growth, expansion, and unconditional love.

Self-love expert and speaker Christine Arylo breaks down self-love into ten areas, making it more practical to grasp.

  • self-care
  • self-respect
  • self-honor
  • self-honesty/awareness
  • self-acceptance
  • self-compassion/forgiveness
  • self-trust
  • self-esteem
  • self-empowerment
  • self-pleasure
  • self-expression

I’ll add a couple more: self-worth (acceptance) and self-gratitude (appreciation/honor.)

If you’re on the fence about self-love practices, let me mention that self-love was once considered selfish and narcissistic. But this isn’t true. Narcissism derives from not having self-love. That means if you crack open their ego, you’ll find shame rooted at the center of their being, and the remedy is self-love.

Furthermore, self-love significantly impacts your well-being and dictates your ability to give and receive, manifest your life easily, and have the courage to pursue your dreams.

If you have struggled to change behavioral patterns or cycled through the same unwanted situations, you can put money on it and bet it traces back to the original culprit—lack of self-love.

What are Affirmations?

Affirmations are positive phrases or mantras you repeatedly write or say aloud to overcome a limiting belief. It’s a simple tool to help raise your vibration and overcome negative self-talk.

The Law of Attraction states that “like attracts like.” Your vibration is a collection of your beliefs, thoughts, and emotions. Daily self-love affirmations can heal the roots of most of life’s problems.

You’ll be able to attract more love, positive situations, and people into your life. Think of self-love work as shedding the layers that no longer serve you and transmuting your vibration from fear to love.

Common human struggles that self-love can heal are procrastination, trouble setting boundaries, self-doubt, trouble saving and making money, toxic relationships, and the list goes on with various struggles of the human condition.

How Do Self-Love Affirmations Work?

Practicing self-love affirmations may not solve all of your problems or be a miracle pill, but affirmations work by training you to think, feel, and, therefore, act differently, allowing you to control and direct your thoughts toward more empowering and positive vibrations.

Moreover, practicing daily affirmations works by reprogramming your subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind holds all of our programs and memories—it’s our operating system. According to stem cell biologist Dr. Bruce H. Lipton, we spend 95% of our time in our subconscious mind and 5% in our conscious mind.

“I say what in your life comes easily to you is there because you have programs to support that. Anything that you struggle to get to, that is because you have programs that don’t support that.” — Dr. Bruce H. Lipton.

The science of neuroplasticity and epigenetics proves that our brains can fire new neuropathways, allowing our minds to expand, grow, and operate differently over time.

Additionally, according to spiritual researcher Dr. David R. Hawkins’s Map of Consciousness, you are changing!

Let me explain.

When a person works on personal growth and affirms, there is a critical shift in consciousness—the individual shifts from force (surviving and struggling) to power (personal empowerment).

How to Use Self-Love Affirmations: 3 Ways

You can practice self-love affirmations in various ways, but we’ll go over the three most popular and effective ways to practice affirmations.

With affirmations, consistency is key. Because the subconscious mind learns by habituation, practicing 10 minutes daily over a long period rather than once a week for 2 hours is better. But don’t let that hold you back; a little is better than none.

1. Repeat Self-Love Affirmations Aloud in The Mirror

Repeating affirmations in the mirror is the most popular way to practice affirmations. Looking in the mirror allows you to connect with yourself and see what thoughts are in your head when you look in the mirror. Are you thinking negative thoughts, such as judging your image?

2. Write Self-Love Affirmations In a Journal

Writing out self-love affirmations in a journal is another effective way to practice affirmations. Scripting your affirmations might work better depending on how you absorb the material. Ideally, I like using both. But experiment and see what works for you. An easy way to start is to choose 5 to 10 affirmations you resonate with and write each affirmation ten times daily. You can do this practice 1 to 3 times daily.

3. Repeat Self-love Affirmations In Your Head

Another great way is to repeat your affirmation or mantra in your head. This method is useful when you are at work, in a stressful situation, in a meeting at work, or before bed.

Practicing affirmations might feel odd at first because, naturally, your body is not used to it, but stick with it. I promise it gets better and more comfortable over time. Choose 5-10 affirmations you resonate with below and go for it.

Also, try writing your own affirmations. It will be more personal to your life and situation. If you’re interested, check out my complete guide on writing affirmations here.

Okay, I think that we have just about covered everything.
